ABOUT THE EVENT

This performance is a part of H0M0HAUS  festival, which is a performing art festival for diversity born to challenge binary gender norms and patriarchal power dynamics that oppress society, including the performing arts scene from the past to the present. They aim to create an open and diverse space, a safe platform for creators and audiences to explore, create, and converse through sharp dialogues, provocative performances, workshops, and academic programs. This is to deepen society's understanding of the LGBTQIAN+ community.

This documentary-style performance delves into the life of a Muslim transgender woman, inviting the audience to ponder the complexities of her identity amidst societal judgment and religious suppression. Portrayed by Aitarnik (Auss) Chitwiset, a gender rights advocate and communication policy expert, under the direction of Sirabhob (Raptor) Attohi, an activist for democracy and gender diversity, the narrative questions why she is deemed a sinner and explores her unwavering faith in God.

Through real-life experiences and nuanced interpretations of religious teachings, the performance sheds light on the struggles faced by transgender individuals within patriarchal systems. Titled 'مُخَنَّث Forgive me for I have sinned,' the production challenges viewers to consider who holds the ultimate judgment over the transgender experience—God or man?

Catch this thought-provoking exploration at the People of Ari (Main Theatre) on 1,2,7,8,9 June 2024 with shows starting at 19:00. The play will be performed in Thai with English subtitles.
